Founded in 1991 by Anuradha Nehru, Kalanidhi Dance is a non-profit organization 501(c)3,
that is committed to the preservation, promotion and education of Kuchipudi dance, an
Indian Classical dance style that originated in Andhra Pradesh, India.
Our Vision: Promote Kuchipudi Indian classical dance and make it
an integral part of the American performance arts landscape.
Our Mission: Inspire appreciation for Kuchipudi dance through
artistic excellence, creative performances, high quality educational
programs and collaborations.
In furtherance of our mission, we are committed to:
- Maintaining and enhancing the status
of Kalanidhi Dance as a dance
company rooted in the
classical Indian tradition.
- Creating original, high quality artistic
work that remains authentic to
the Kuchipudi style.
- Pushing the boundaries of Kuchipudi through collaborations
with local and international artists and across various genres.
- Attracting students at an early age and helping them
reach their full potential through rigorous instruction.
- Empowering dancers to become professional artists through
Kalanidhi Dance has captivated audiences in the U.S. and
around the world, demystifying the rich and ancient tradition
of Kuchipudi dance through exquisitely conceptualized and
choreographed performances. It has also trained and developed
new generations of Kuchipudi dancers in the U.S, while touring
with them across the country and in India and South East Asia.
Kalanidhi Dance aspires to maintain an uncompromising commitment
to the highest standards of the Indian classical dance tradition while
pushing its boundaries to experiment with different forms of artistic
expression in dance to access new audiences.
