Nritya Malika — A Garland of Dances
Nritya Malika: A Garland of Dances
From the sacred to the secular, an immersive journey into the myths and magic of Indian mythologies, literature, and dance.
The Maryland-based ensemble Kalanidhi Dance will present an afternoon performance showcasing a kaleidoscope of choreographers who illuminate the brilliant facets of Kuchipudi dance. A dance form characterized by flowing, graceful, and theatrical movements with an emphasis on dance-drama, storytelling, and rapid, lively footwork, Kuchipudi is grounded in the style of pioneering visionary Guru Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam and chiseled by Kalanidhi Dance Director Anuradha Nehru. The performance will be followed by a talkback with Hari Krishnan, Co-Chair and Professor of Global South Asian Studies, and Professor of Dance and Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
This event is part of the 50th anniversary Navaratri Festival at Wesleyan.
